Languages and cultures - Aboriginal peoples

Aboriginal peoples in Canada include First Nations people (North American Indian), M�tis and Inuit. These distinct groups have unique heritages, languages and cultures. Statistical information is available for the total Aboriginal population and each of the three groups. Statistics on language for Aboriginal peoples in Canada include data on exposure to Aboriginal languages, self-rated importance and ability to speak and understand an Aboriginal language. This section also includes statistics on traditional activities, such as making clothing or footwear; making arts or crafts; hunting, fishing, or trapping; and gathering wild plants (for example, berries, rice or sweet grass).
